QuickMAR Interface and NCPDP SCRIPT 10.6
The Center for Medicaid Services has set a deadline of November 1st, 2014, after which all new orders that are submitted electronically must be in NCPDP SCRIPT 10.6 format in order for pharmacies to get reimbursed.
CMS has made it very clear that this ruling affects only new orders, submitted electronically. They have been equally clear that it does NOT apply to 1) orders in the pharmacy system that are shared with other systems (e.g., orders sent to an eMAR system), and 2) reorder requests.
Here is how this affects QuickMAR.
- This ruling does NOT affect the existing interfaces, HL7 or other types, where orders in the pharmacy system are imported in to QuickMAR. HL7 messaging is still a valid means for sharing this data.
- This ruling does NOT affect reorder requests
- This ruling DOES apply to our facility-initiated orders feature, which is just now being released, one pharmacy system at a time. This feature will be compliant with this requirement.
